Le SGC est en crise - trop d'équipes blessées, trop de morts. La tension monte et la pression pour obtenir des résultats tangibles n'a jamais été aussi forte. Le général Hammond est obligé de faire appel à l'équipe d'intervention du Pentagone pour boucher les trous.
Mais l'aide a son prix. Lorsque le chef de l'équipe, le colonel Dave Dixon, arrive au SG-1, il apporte avec lui des loyautés qui se mêlent dangereusement à un passé que le colonel Jack O'Neill préférerait oublier. Affecté en tant qu'observateur au SG-1, l'hostilité entre les deux hommes s'intensifie alors que la mission vitale de l'équipe, qui consiste à obtenir des droits miniers lucratifs, tourne au cauchemar.
Seule le Dr Janet Fraiser peut espérer sauver la vie de SG-1, à condition que Dave Dixon et Jack O'Neill ne s'entretuent pas avant...

Assigned as an observer on SG-1, hostility between the two men escalates as the team's vital mission to secure lucrative mining rights descends into a nightmare.
Only Dr. Janet Fraiser can hope to save the lives of SG-1-that is, if Dave Dixon and Jack O'Neill don't kill each other first...

Daniel glared at Dixon, arms defiantly folded. "I don't care what Fraiser said. Fraiser's not here, and she's not my superior officer. You're not my superior officer either, Dave. I'm telling you, flat out, we are not leaving that poor girl alone out there overnight while she's sick and suffering."
Beyond the retreat's open door the sun was setting, the Adjoan sky streaking from blue to pink. It'd be dark soon, and if he had to argue with Dixon till his tongue fell out he wasn't going to let some stupid medical protocol get in the way of doing what was right.
"Would you leave one of your men out there?" he continued. "No. So if you're suggesting Lotar's somehow a second-class citizen because she's not from Earth then -"
"Whoah, whoah, settle down," said Dixon, a bite in his voice. "Did I say that? What I said was that bringing another sick person in here could increase our chances, yours and mine, of catching whatever the hell it is that's going round. Because we're not sick yet and I'd like to keep it that way."
"Oh for crying out loud!" he shouted. "We're already exposed."
